A lot of friends and family have asked what an acre is. In the city, we don't go by acres, we tend to measure a "lot" by sq. ft, because most lots are in subdivisions and they're well under 7500 sq. ft for a typical lot... depending on the subdivision of course!
So what is an acre, really?
Well, an acre is 43,560 square feet. It is roughly the size of an American football field. Think of it as a football field without the end zones. That is the best way to describe and maybe visualize an acre. Let's say the average home is 2,000 square feet. For me, that is a 4 bedroom house, with dining room, living room, family room, kitchen, utility room, small study, and two full baths. Pop quiz.... how many 2k sq. ft. homes can you fit within an acre?
So, when you're looking for property to buy that is very large in acreage, remember, you have to maintain this land as well. If you don't maintain the land, mother nature will!
This is the best visual I can give you.
